Lit. Poems

"White"
Brown is the danger in all German's eyes
Green is pea's in mama's soup from a can
Clear is found in the tears of young children's terrified cries
and white is the color of the secret snowman

Red is the fire and hatred during the war
Blue coats the cover of a book I have stolen
Lemon and sky blue are a symbol of safety
while pure white resembles the souls that have risen

Yellow are the stars painted over the doors of shattered house's
Pale is the color of a dirty Jew's ill face
Black is the color of bombs and destruction
But white is the color life takes in death's place

"The Girl With Safe Hair and Dangerous Eyes"
Liesel Meminger
Fearless, Jew Lover, scarred
Who loves the thrill of taking without asking
Who feels unsure about what may lay ahead
Who needs papa's soothing reading to get her through the night
Who shares love with all who are willing to share back
Who fears the abduction of the man living in her basement
Who'd like to see one more smile appear on the face of her forever young brother
Who dreams of a single cough that changed her life forever
Who ends up living, and dying, happily ever after

Aquarium Response.

Last week, in school we got the pleasure of visiting the Camden Aquarium. After spending a good portion of the year in science class learning about echinoderms and mullosks, I was so happy we would get to see some live in action! We saw many creatures such as many different types of fish, seals, African penguins, hippo's and sting rays. In addition to that, we got to see crabs and starfish. But most importantly, we got to see my personal favorite, sharks! They had many different types of sharks featured at the aquarium and a big shark tank with a tunnel people could walk through. I must have spent about twenty minutes in there! Overall, it was such a fun trip and I really enjoyed it. Also, I learned a lot. For instance, I learned that not all penguins come from Antarctica and some can survive in warm climates. That came as a big shocker!
